To Know Yourself, the heart-mind

I hope your summer is going well. I certainly have been enjoying it. My sister and I toured Brooklyn over the weekend. We started in downtown Williamsburg then we walked through Prospect Park and finally we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. It was a wonderful day. I have been to all this places before but walking through all these places with my sister created a new experience of them all.

There were the stops at the places we found interesting and all the selfies we took while in them. As we walked, we talked about our life right now and also stories of our childhood and our experiences of it. There were a lot of laughter and some beautifully heart wrenching tender moments. I had never experienced all these places in such a way before. It was amazing. It is interesting to recognize how the mind creates and stores all these experiences. I went from having experienced all these places as just a mere onlooker to having an emotional connection to them.

In the last few weeks we have been exploring the theme of getting to know ourselves. We got to know and experience different parts of our body but the body is just one the outermost layers of the experience of self. As we move deeper this week we begin to explore citta or the heart-mind. Citta in Sanskrit refers to pure Consciousness contracted into thoughts and feelings.

We will be taking some time at the end of class to explore and get to know this layer of ourselves.

I look forward to seeing you in class.

Breathe easy

Blessings
