To know yourself
I hope you are having a wonderful summer season. I have been walking the streets of New York City which is one my favorite things to do. I love this because it gives me an opportunity to enjoy and admire the city but also it gives me time to reflect and contemplate about myself and life. To know oneself is the highest goal one can have for a yoga practice. This is one of the things that drew me to start to practice yoga. I remember being in my early twenties and realized how little I knew about myself. Not only that but I did not know how to go about such an endeavor.
Yoga offers us many tools to do that. These tools are geared towards helping us to understand our personality in all its facets but also encourages us to get to experience the substratum behind what makes us the person we think we are.
This may sound too daunting of an endeavor but it really starts in a simple way by learning to observe ourselves. We do this on the mat. The more we observe the more we start noticing patterns and other things and eventually we get to experience what is behind all that.
This week we will be exploring how this getting to know ourselves applies to our body.
I look forward to seeing you in class.
