niḥstabdhatā Quietness

Quietness is something we can experience when we are very still in the body, mind, and heart. The quietness that I am reminded of is the kind I have experienced in unexpected places.

There was a time when I stood in front of the ocean by myself. Even though I could feel the wind and hear the waves crashing on the shore, I felt completely quiet. Or the time I was meditating, and even though my mind was busy, I could experience the quiet space within which those thoughts arose. And then there were the times when I felt quietness as I moved from one pose to the next in a yoga class, even though there were many people there and music was playing.

These experiences taught me that quietness is not always about the absence of noise. There is a state available to us in which we can experience it independtly of outer circumstances.

This week, as we focus on the breath as an anchor in our yoga practice, we are invited to recognize the quietness that is already present, even as we move from one pose to the next.

Breathe easy,

Blessings,

Jorge Nihāl
