Cit: Witness Awareness

When I started meditating and practicing yoga, I did it as a way find answers, and I had so many questions (I still do). After many years of witnessing the contents of my mind,  I feel more able to self–regulate. This offers a certain distance from the world, which initially can be helpful, but not in the long run. During challenging times, this experience has created a feeling of being calm as the ship goes down—like standing on deck with full awareness, waiting for a map that does not exist.

Cit is the very ground of awareness upon and within which everything rests. It does not provide answers, but we may say it poses a question: What happens if I move through this form right now? The movement that clarifies itself by happening. The gift of this layer of Self is the realization that yes there is no map—but the map is drawn by walking.  It is also the realization that distance can keep you calm but inactive, and that, at this time, inaction is incoherent.

This week, as you come to class, you can take each pose as one of the steps you make as you draw your own map.

I look forward to seeing you in class

Breathe easy,

Blessings,

Jorge Nihāl
