ātma-pratyāvartana

Awareness is the most basic thing we do. It is so second nature to us that we don't think twice about directing it. We simply let it move about as it will, from one experience to the next, and we seldom notice it.

Personally, I have been limiting my access to things where my attention tends to get lost. For instance, it has been a little over a year since I have reduced my engagement in social media, which has allow for a greater sense of mental space.

Recently, I came across the idea of reclaiming our ability to choose where awareness rests. This can manifest as digital minimalism and more intentional living routines. To me, this reflects a desire to choose where our awareness rests.

Ātma-pratyāvartana, which means "turning back toward the self" is an aspect of the yoga practice that allows us to bring a wandering awareness back. In this way, we can more easily direct it with clarity and intention.

I look forward to seeing you in class, where we can explore how our attention wanders in our practice and how we can invite it to flow back.

Breathe easy,

Blessings
